This has been playing on my mind a lot recently. There is so much juicy interior goodness out there to help us create our dream homes, which is great! But, I don’t know about you…I find those never ending Pinterest images can get us totally absorbed into designing spaces that don’t reflect who we are at all. I get totally lost in a massive Pinterest/Social Media maze that puts me into a good head spinner. They really can confuse the hell out of us and we end up with a fab collective mix of gorgeous home imagery and different Interior Styles. Which is just not useful. So, I want to help you find ways to make your personality shine through your home.

Choose your Colour Scheme wisely.
Now this is a big one. Colours come in all sorts of shades and tones. There isn’t just one red or one blue…there is an array of gorgeous colours in between. From bright to subtle tones, whichever you choose, can really effect the way you feel in that space. You might love the look of that bright pink wall in that Instagram picture but when it comes to reality it could make you scream inside and not want to step in that room at all. Maybe it is the tone of that pink? Could a more pastel pink work better for you?
Thanks to Karen Haller (A leading International Authority in the field of Behavioural Colour & Design Psychology) who has opened our eyes to colour, it is important we really think twice about the colours we choose for our home. Karen explains the importance of how we use colour in our designs. She states we should use colour “consciously to really create considered designs that improve the wellbeing of everybody involved”.
How do these colours make us feel? Warm and Cosy? Stressed and Anxious? This part is down to you guys. Next time you get out that colour chart, question your colour choices. So go find your inner colour psychologist and start questioning those colours!

2. Artwork.
Now this is a personal one! I love the variations of Art we have available to us on the market. I truly believe Art can add wonders to our home and really compliment and reflect our personal styles so well. “A picture paints a thousands words” really does sum up the impact a piece of Art can have on our homes. From the colours and textures to the stories within the image, there is something out there for all us. Are you eccentric and loud? Why not go for something bright and colourful. Or do you have a quiet space, that may lend itself to Artwork with more neutral, subtle tones.
One of my all time favourite Artists is Emily Powell. Not only does her gorgeous, infectious and bright personality shine through her Artwork, but she is a fab example of how Artwork and Personality can shine through your home. As a close friend, I have had the privilege of seeing Emily’s home first hand. And wow, this girl is so beautifully bold and brave…I love it. You will walk out of her home with the biggest grin and feeling so much warmth. From the cute little fairy house painting on the stairs, to the blue birds that cover the downstairs toilet walls. Her home is a true reflection of her Personality, I love it!

4. Create Spaces around things you love.
There are so many great designs out there for inspiration when it comes to designing spaces. But, to really show off that personality focus on designing a space around the things you love and maybe less so on what is trending right now in the Interiors world. At the end of the day, you want to be sitting in a space that really makes you feel at home amongst all those things you love. A couple of simple ideas below to get you started.
1 - Your Personality Moodboard.
Before you make a start on decorating your space this is a really useful exercise to help get your creativity flowing. Look in Magazines, Books, Google, Photographs for images that reflect your style. Cut out images and arrange on a board to create a gorgeous image moodboard around the things you adore and which reflects your personality. Use your personality moodboard as a constant reference. It will help keep you focused on creating a space that reflects you!
2 - Choose an Image.
Next, choose an image on your moodboard that you love. I always try to find an image where I am drawn to the colours and textures. This becomes a great foundation for a colour scheme for your space.
3 - The Fluffy Stuff.
Once you have got a rough idea on your colour scheme this can then become a great starting pointing for sourcing FF&E items and looking for objects around your home (aka “Memorabilia!”) that would be a great fit for your room, alongside your colour scheme.
Remember…when sourcing items, it helps to always refer back to your Moodboard and chosen colour scheme to ensure you are on track. There are endless design possibilities out there which will throw you off course and send you into a head spin. This will help keep you focused on designing a space around you!
And there we have it….hopefully some little tips to take away to help bring that inner you into your Home. Don’t be afraid to let go and really show off what you love and allow your Personality to shine through your Home!
